RE: Help! Flies!

Someone suggested I try 1/4 cup vinegar, two tbsp of liquid soap, mixed together in a spray bottle. I used a garden sprayer instead and sprayed our back yard. It seemed to help quite a bit for a few hours.

RE: Help with 12 volt mod

I have done your first one listed. You then need to turn off your "inverter" so you aren't trying to charge your batteries with your batteries in a loop. This can often be done by flipping circuit breakers not needed. With that set up you can mount the inverter as close to the battery as possible and just route your shoreline to it.

RE: Painting Dish

This is rf, not visual light spectrum. The rf will not see shiny versus dull. Paint it any color you want except using metallic paint. That is if metallic paint actually has any metal in it.

RE: Low 12 system voltage

Does sound like a battery but 14.53 is not right either from the converter so something is wrong. 14.53 will kill your batteries in short order if it stays that way. Good luck
That is probably a no load voltage and once a good battery is in place it should drop back to normal. With the voltage across the battery you mention it sure sounds like two bad cells. Even if your converter was bad, that battery in that state is probably toast.

RE: Painting Dish

I do antenna installations of all types. Just did a microwave hop from a PD to the top of a mountain. To disguise the white antenna on the hill top I just used a rattle can paint. You can get fancy but I just needed to break up the silhouette

RE: strange noises

Daboo
The outside radio as well as the rear bedroom radio on Winnebagos, and I guess other brands as well, are prone to doing this.
In my case its the bedroom radio. Here is what I found out about mine. When I turn on the kitchen flourescent light 3 times out of 5 it will also turn on my radio. Flourescent fixtures are notorious for this when the ballast (I guess) starts going bad.
Check this out on yours. Elect interference of some sort is the culpret. I am replacing my flourescent fixture with an LED replacement bulb.
Someone mentioned months ago about flourescent fixtures causing interference with infared remotes. I had some intermittent issues in the bedroom using an infared remote extender. Seems when it is pointing at the room light it does not work well. I changed batteries etc. Fought it for months. I own an electronics company. Thought I was smart. I can be taught. Turning off the light lets it work fine. Experimenting with the extender I found by turning it away from the light it works just fine. Or turn the light out.
I sure have learned some new tricks on this forum. Now if they could just get spell check fixed, I know they don't have stupid check but sure could use it sometimes.

RE: Maintenance in Sacramento area

All Seasons RV in Yuba City. They have been around a lot of years, have a beautiful repair facility, and have done decent work for me over 20 years now. They did work on my current RV, a 2005 Winnebago.
Village RV in Roseville is an Itasca dealer and service center. My business partner bought there but had his serviced here locally in Yuba City because of the travel.

RE: I'm sitting in the dark and need your help!

If you can safely get to the power cord that supplies the coverter, see if it has a standard AC type plug on it. If it does, run an extension cord to it and see if it works then. This will bypass any gfi or circuit breaker problems.

RE: Getting the wire into the MH

For the initial setup and test just place the antenna in the corner of the bunk area next to the bed. Even stick the antenna to the glass with some duct tape. Since your RV has a fiberglass skin and wood interior you should get a decent signal inside near that window. This will give you enough separation and time to plan your final install. Not knowing what antenna you have or seeing a picture puts me at a disadvantage right now.
The person that mentioned the "drip loop" is spot on if you take the cable through the window.
I am not a fan of flat cable. With 35 years of experience my gut reaction is the loss could be considerable at these frequencies.
In my MH I mounted the antenna inside above the driver. I have the overhead TV and cabinets. The portion covering the cab is fiberglass and there is a great framework inside I was able to access by removing the TV.

RE: Electrical question

Are you using an extension cord ?
Have you cleaned the plug legs so they are shiny ?
Do you have a voltmeter ?
Are you using a grounded outlet, that is, not using something like a two prong to thee prong adaptor ?

RE: LP Alarm HELP!!!

Eventually you will need a new one. They do fail. My last one was replaced in less than a year. Under warranty. I would buy one based on the age and you should sleep better. Of course be sure the batteries are charged properly.

RE: am antenna-help

Make sure the connection is seated well into the radio and check the antenna end to make sure it is clean and tight.

RE: Choppy video

You might have to temporarily disable security features.
I would also check the "power properties" because your hard drive might be going to sleep or one of those settings associated with that. I will try to explain but my laptop is not by me.
Right click on blank part of screen, properties, settings, screen saver tab, down below is power settings. Take a look there .
As mentioned, do a disk cleanup and defrag as well.

RE: How to cook using DO....

There are lots of books and I even have a video that helped a lot. My best advice is to follow the two up and two down guideline to start out with.
A 12 inch DO, Place 14 coals on top and 10 beneath. This will give you about 325-350 degree heat. Turn the top a 1/4 turn every 15 minutes if browing something from the top to be a very even product.
Just pretend it is a mini oven. Just fueled by coals.
I use mine on a gas stove for lots of things too.

RE: Running fridge on the inverter

Mine was mis-wired this way from the factory and it would not run a day on 4 6V batteries. It draws more than the alt can replenish. The ice maker does run on the inverter.
Well, I knew it drew about 1600 watts(?), but really didn't know how much the alt would recharge the 4 coach batteries. My ice/water also runs off of the inverter as per factory. Bummer
Double check your 1600 watt figure. I suspect you will find it is 160. With 1600 watts your current draw to the inverter would be close to 120 amps. I just looked inside my residential refer, side by side model, only draws 3.2 amps on ac which would translate to about 25-30 amps dc. Of course that is an intermittent draw. Your alternator would have no problem keeping up with 160 watts which translates to about 11 amps dc.
My parents used to run a small refer and freezer on an inverter. No problems.

RE: How long should an AGM Optima Battery last?

My son usually gets about 2 years out of trolling motor batteries. He's got Optima's in there now and had them for one year, so time will tell if they are any better than the regular batteries.
I used two of them for my trolling motor and did not get any longer life than the Stowaway batterys I had been using. One died in a year and the "warranty exchange" cost me as much as a new Stowaway would have. I have since changed them both out to Stowaways. I get about two years max out of a set. The bass boat really hammers them physically and electrically.

RE: CAN CA. BEAT OREGON ?

If you stay near FT Bragg, go to Inoyo harbor. That is on the Inoyo river that feeds to the ocean. Find Sharons resturant. It is at the end of the road when you decend the hill and wind back under a long green bridge. Just a short distance. Maybe a mile from the highway above. I believe the resturant is "Sharons by the Sea". The food is incredible. The place is tiny. The wine is carefully selected and imported. Try some Cianti. Hard to find better.
If you want a really neat RV park you can stay on the ocean front at Wages Creek. The manager is a bit of a {insert here} but the campground is beautiful. The park is about 17 miles North of Ft Bragg.
If you have time to stop in Mendocino you can find several fun places to eat.

RE: The Chevy Colorado and the SMI Stay in Play?

It works in my H3.(supposedly the Colorado chassis} Be sure they send the smaller brake cylinder device. The chassis has excellent brakes and does not need all the force of the larger one.
You will need to pump the brakes with the engine off to eliminate the residual boost but that takes only a few seconds.
